Samantha: My name is Samantha, and I am going to talk to you about some low back issues. So in your low back you have a lot of different muscles and muscle attachments that are all here in this region. So you have your erector spinae group that runs along both side of your spine, and so I always like to meet those with my thumbs, and then I work my way out towards the hips getting all of those little attachments in there, and then you also have your quadratus longorum muscles that also gets very tight and ropy and that connects here at the bottom of your last rib to the top of your hip, so it kind of fans out a little bit. And for that muscle I like to apply a slow but deep pressure with my elbow. And does that pressure feel okay?

Woman: Yeah, and you can go a little deeper.

Samantha: Okay.

Woman: That’s good.

Samantha: Okay, and now she’s at her comfort level, so we’re just going to hold this position a little bit and let the muscles adjust. Does it feel like it’s listening a little?

Woman: It does.

Samantha: Okay, and once you get some movement in the muscle, and it feels like it’s loosening for the client, you can go ahead and slowly slide out, and I always like to do a little rub in between, just a little make nice for the muscles and then depending on how tight the client’s low back is, I will do it again, but no more than three times. I definitely don’t want to overwork the muscles and send you home sore. So that was my demonstration on how I treat my clients with chronic low back pain.
